The “Meeting between the City and the Arts”, the final conference of the Centre of Geographical Studies’ project ÁGORA, was composed of a day of sessions focused on discussions centered on the contributions of the arts to the transformation of the city.
For the project, this transformation is the result of “a tension between hegemonic views and resistance, where the first is linked to the commodification and competitiveness of cities and the second to reflexivity, to critical and disruptive impulses that seem to arise from a wide range of expressions of contemporary art. Thus, it is relevant to understand the extent to which artistic dynamics are linked to tensions between market forces, political powers and the rejection of the neoliberal model, particularly in the city of Lisbon “.
