Biosketch

Full and Emeritus Professor of the University of Lisbon at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT-UL) and senior researcher of the Centre for Geographical Studies (CEGL).
Research specialization on urban geography, with emphasis on urban redevelopment, sociospatial change, resilience and sustainability, retail and consumption, housing, tourism, and real estate.
Collaboration in conferences and intensive courses in other Portuguese and foreign universities, mainly in Europe and Brazil.
Orientation of many dissertations and member of examination and discussion boards in Portugal, France, Belgium, Spain, and Canada.
Partner or coordinator of research projects funded by Portuguese and European institutions with Portuguese and foreign universities, and some applied projects for public authorities.
Organization of the 1st Congress of Portuguese Geography, international meetings, workshops, and conferences and participation in many Conferences in Portugal and abroad presenting papers, sometimes as invited speaker.
Regular functions on the University management boards and the Portuguese Assoc of Geographers.
Received the prize Mercurio for research (by the Confederation of Retail and Services and the Lisbon School of Retail), the Medal of Honor from the University of Lisbon, and the 2020 Medal of Scientific Merit from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
