Biosketch
Maria Lucinda Fonseca – Full Professor of Human Geography at IGOT, Universidade de Lisboa. She is the Coordinator of the Research group MIGRARE and the Director of the PhD programme in Migration Studies. She is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Board of IMISCOE. She is, moreover, a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and a member of the International Steering Committee of the Metropolis International Project and EuroMedMig – The Euro-Mediterranean Research Network on Migration. She coordinated and participated in several EU and NORFACE funded research projects and has wide experience in research training. She has published extensively in Portugal and abroad in the fields of international migration, migration and integration policies, urban transformation dynamics, migration, ageing and depopulation of low density areas.
Her current research activities focus on two main topics: i) human migration and how it is related to demographic, economic, social and environmental transformation at local, regional, national and international scale; ii) Institutional Change for Gender Equality in Research and Higher Education.
She has served on numerous management and leadership positions at the University of Lisbon, namely the following: Dean and President of the Scientific Council of IGOT (2013-2019); Member of the General Council of the University of Lisbon (2010-2013); Pro-Rector (1998-2002); Board Member of the Faculty of Letters (1991-93).
