Margarida Queirós started teaching in higher education as an Invited Assistant, in 1987, in the Portuguese Catholic University, Portugal; then and simultaneously in the University of Coimbra (Faculty of Letters). Since 1992 she is teaching and researching at the University of Lisbon.

She was a visiting scholar: at the University of Quebec at Montreal (Canadian Studies Grant – Faculty Research Program 2008-2009 International Council for Canadian Studies, ICCS); at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Grant); at the UNESP President Prudente, Brazil; at the University of Valencia; at the Pedagogical and Technological University, Bogotá, Colombia (UPTC).

Currently she is Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT, University of Lisbon) and a researcher at the Centre for Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon.
