On May 29, 2019, a heartfelt homage was paid to Prof. Catarina Ramos, who died on April 25, 2018.
The tribute session, held at the Auditorium Orlando Ribeiro at IGOT, had testimonies about Prof. Catarina Ramos’ great generosity, uprightness and mission spirit. One of IGOT’s workers, in integrating the Installation Commission and the 1st Director of the Institute, Prof. Catarina Ramos marked several generations of geographers, not only for her scientific work, but also for her enormous taste and commitment to teaching. Foi concedido financiamento para 2019 para o projeto intitulado “Eventos de poeiras saharianas e impactos na saúde em Portugal e Marrocos (GEOSAHARA), coordenado pelo Prof. Marcelo Fragoso, investigador efetivo do CEG e docente do IGOT, em parceria com o Prof. Ali Faleh no âmbito Acordo FCT/CNRST 2019-20.
The researchers from CEG – ULisboa, Ângela Santos and Margarida Queirós, received the Science Award 2017, promoted by the Portuguese Association of Risks, Prevention and Safety.

Entre os passados dias 11 de Fevereiro e 5 de Março, a equipa do projeto PERMANTAR – Permafrost and climate change in the Western Antarctic Peninsula, levou a cabo uma campanha na Península Barton (ilha de Rei Jorge, Shetlands do Sul), em que realizou uma nova perfuração com 13 m de profundidade, em substrato rochoso. Ângela Santos, an effective researcher at CEG / IGOT at the University of Lisbon, was one of the actors in the SIC “Grande Reportagem” program entitled Great Report – “Tremendo Portugal”: is the country prepared for a great earthquake? Ângela Santos refers to the urgency of creating a Tsunami warning network along the Portuguese coast, stressing that the tsunamis caused by the earthquakes of 1755 and 1969 reached the entire Portuguese coast.
