The exhibition Baçal Segundo o Seu Abade – Contactos Científicos entre o Geógrafo Orlando Ribeiro e o Padre Francisco Manuel Alves opens on February 8, at 4 pm. It had the cooperation of the Centre of Geographical Studies by providing documents from Professor Orlando Ribeiro’s personal library and photographs from the centre Photo Library.
The exhibition will be on display at the Abade de Baçal Museum, in collaboration with the Museu da Terra de Miranda (Miranda do Douro). The inauguration will be attended by Professor João Carlos Garcia, the exhibition’s scientific coordinator.
Baçal Segundo o Seu Abade addresses the scientific relations between Orlando Ribeiro and Padre Francisco Manuel, two iconic figures for the study of the Portuguese territory. This relationship bloomed through archaeologist Leite de Vasconcelos, an old friend of Francisco Manuel Alves’ and master of a young Orlando Ribeiro.
The exhibition is based on a significant set of documentation, consisting of correspondence, field notebooks, photographs and bibliography.
